A Vessel,
Not A Hotel
Each house is a shelter first — somewhere to set down what you were carrying and stay a while.

Each house is a shelter first — somewhere to set down what you were carrying and stay a while.

No template and no chain. Each ARK takes its materials, its shape and its pace from the valley it sits in.

Mud, stone and reclaimed wood, worked by people who live here. Imperfect on purpose, and better for it.
What we mean when we say ARK — and why it shapes every stay.
The word carries the same idea everywhere it appears: shelter through uncertainty, safe passage, a fresh start on the other side.
We took it literally. Every ARK is built to hold what matters — the character of its setting, the pace of the day, the reason you came.
Different houses. Different landscapes.
Not a chain, not a boutique hotel.
A handful of houses, each one kept the way we would want to find it.
ARK started with one house in the mountains, above a small Himalayan village.
We liked the idea of creating places that felt connected to where they were — not just houses placed in beautiful locations, but spaces that carried something of the landscape, the people and the pace of life around them.
Over time, that idea took us beyond the mountains, to the forests, villages and slower corners of Goa.
Each place is different. Some are surrounded by mountains, some by trees and tropical gardens. What connects them is the way we like to stay: with space, privacy, good design, and enough time to do very little.
ARK is still growing, one place at a time.
Local hands, local materials, and a preference for surfaces that show their age rather than hide it.
Step outside and into the landscape — mountain trails, forest paths and riverbeds in the Himalayas; tropical gardens, palms, open skies and quiet afternoons in Goa. Places to walk, swim, breathe, wander, or simply slow down and let the day unfold.
A mountain you remember years later. A room where the morning light felt different. A poolside afternoon that stretched into evening. A meal shared slowly. A conversation that happened because, for once, nobody was in a hurry.
ARK exists to create more of those places.
We seek out landscapes with a story, bring together thoughtful design, local character and genuine hospitality, and give each place a life of its own.
Our properties are not designed to look the same. They are designed to belong. To their mountains, forests, villages, coastlines and communities.
From the quiet of the Himalayas to the tropical ease of Goa, we create stays shaped by where they are. Places to wake up slowly, spend long afternoons by the pool, wander through a village, disappear into the mountains, or simply do nothing at all.
Because travel is not always about seeing more. Sometimes, it is about feeling more.
We are building places that invite you to slow down, look closer and experience somewhere rather than simply visit it.
Because the places worth travelling for are the ones you carry home with you.

From Himalayan valleys to the Goan coast — each ARK is set somewhere worth travelling to, and built to feel like a place you already know.

Every ARK is pet-friendly. From the Himalayas to Goa, your four-legged family members are welcome at all of our locations — so nobody has to be left behind.

“Some places ask nothing of you — only that you arrive, breathe and belong.”

ARK is one of those rare words that carries meaning across cultures without feeling tied to a single story. It evokes safety, movement, discovery, and the idea of carrying something valuable from one place to another. That's particularly powerful for a hospitality brand.
Here's what travellers are likely to feel:
After a long journey, an ark represents shelter from the outside world. It feels like arriving somewhere secure and peaceful.
An ark is not merely a destination; it’s something that exists because of a journey. It suggests travel with purpose rather than tourism.
In many traditions, an ark symbolizes protecting life, memories, culture, or knowledge. A stay becomes something worth remembering.
The most familiar image is a vessel carrying life through a great flood, creating strong associations with mountains, forests, wildlife, and sustainability.
Across many cultures, the ark represents the start of a new chapter after uncertainty. Many travellers seek exactly that feeling when they escape to the mountains.
An ark carries diverse people and stories together. For hospitality, this translates into meaningful human connection rather than anonymous accommodation.
For a mountain retreat like Ark Hunzuru, the name can communicate something deeper than luxury: an ark is a sanctuary for travellers, a place where journeys pause, nature takes over, and people leave carrying something more than memories.
This positions Ark Hunzuru as an experience — not simply a hotel.
